Version 0.0.160

It’s been a while, but I finally have the knowledge and skill to resume this project. About 90% of the game is being developed with GPT Codex and careful design, while the other 10% is me doing the things AI either can’t do well or refuses to do. Version 0.0.160 is now very close to the original version of the game, but with a lot of improvements under the hood and across the overall experience.

Here is what is currently in the game:

World and exploration

The game now features a large explorable map with dozens of implemented rooms across the cabin, town, school, hospital, outdoor routes, plains, and battle-specific spaces. The world is room-based, with descriptions, exits, and local objects to inspect.

A lot of the world is reactive rather than static. Many rooms change their descriptions based on the time of day and current weather. Morning, afternoon, evening, and night are all tracked, and weather conditions such as rain, fog, wind, and storms help give the world a more dynamic feel.

The game also already has audio support tied into world state, including music, ambience, weather ambience, radio behavior, and special battle music.

Characters and interaction

There is already a large cast of implemented NPCs, many with schedules, dialogue, interaction hooks, and location-based behavior. Characters are not just standing in one place all day. Many of them move around based on time, routine, sleep, and activity.

The Talk system is implemented and supports more than basic conversation. Current interaction options include:

  • Talk
  • Hug
  • Kiss
  • Ask
  • Play
  • Bad

Different NPCs have their own Ask topics, responses, and special behaviors rather than sharing one generic dialogue pool. Some Ask interactions also connect directly to gameplay systems, such as Orion’s training and spar battles.

The Bad submenu is also a real gameplay system and not just flavor text. It includes options like being mean, bullying, hurting, and inappropriate behavior, with those choices feeding into a hidden corruption system that changes what harsher actions Zenas is willing to do.

Party and daily-life systems

Zenas is always the core party member, while other companions can join or leave through Ask interactions when eligible. Party composition matters mechanically. Active party members show up in party displays, can use inventory and equipment systems, and can participate in battle.

The party also has a real size limit, so companions are managed as an actual group instead of an unlimited roster.

Daily-life systems are already implemented and affect both Zenas and active party members. These include:

  • Hunger
  • Dirtiness
  • Tiredness
  • Boredom
  • Sadness
  • Bathroom needs

These needs are not just cosmetic. If ignored, they can interrupt actions, limit progress, or cause companions to refuse to continue adventuring or refuse to rejoin.

Current daily-life commands include:

  • Eat
  • Sleep
  • Bath
  • Relieve
  • Wait
  • Help
  • Learn

Some of these are location-based, such as eating in the dining room, bathing in the bathroom, sleeping in proper sleeping spaces, and learning in the puppy classroom.

Combat and progression

The game includes a separate turn-based battle system with its own UI and flow. Current battle commands include:

  • Fight
  • Magic
  • Items
  • Run

Combat already supports stats, HP, MP, turn order, enemy turns, target selection, battle items, and battle-end outcomes. Characters also have levels, EXP, stat growth, and equipment-based stat bonuses.

There are multiple encounter types already implemented, including:

  • Wild battles
  • Orion training battles
  • Orion spar battles

Wild battles can reward drops, while training and sparring are more focused on progression.

Items, equipment, and economy

Items can already be collected through the Take system when they are meant to be collectible. Inventory is character-based rather than being one shared abstract bag, which gives the system more structure.

There are consumables for both daily-life support and battle use, including food, drinks, direct healing items, and regeneration-style battle items.

The equipment system is also live, with named gear slots instead of a single generic equipment field. Current slot support includes areas like:

  • Body
  • Legs
  • Hands
  • Head
  • Neck
  • Feet
  • Accessories

Early armor and starter-style equipment are already implemented, including things like robe parts, boots, a sturdy stick, and small accessories.

Money is also fully active, with shop and transaction systems already working. Current implemented economy features include:

  • Mickey’s item shop
  • Alaric’s clothier shop
  • Maxwell’s slaughterhouse system

The slaughterhouse system allows supported carcasses to be processed into useful materials like meat, pelt, bones, and brain instead of reducing hunting rewards to a single generic loot step.

Saving and settings

The game already supports autosaving in browser storage. Saves can also be exported manually and loaded back in.

Save data includes major world and player state, such as:

  • Location
  • Time
  • Party state
  • Character state
  • Inventory
  • Equipment
  • Battle progression

There is also a settings screen with support for:

  • Master volume
  • Music volume
  • Ambience volume
  • Battle text speed

Current state of the project

Right now, the game is best described as a feature-rich sandbox adventure build. A lot of the core systems are already in place: exploration, social interaction, daily-life mechanics, party management, combat, inventory, shops, saving, and options.

Some systems, like objectives, quests, and broader progression structure, are still earlier in development compared to the exploration and interaction side of the game. So while the game already has a lot going on, it is not yet meant to be read as a fully complete quest-driven RPG.

Still, version 0.0.160 is a major step forward and is much closer to the original vision of the game than earlier rebuilds were.
